John Finlay is the founder of Help Houston Recover, and is a native Houstonian and long-time charity supporter. Current charitable projects include fundraising with movie tickets from Premiere Cinema Corporation in 11 different cities, including Abilene, Baytown, Birmingham, AL, Burleson (near Ft. Worth), Bryan \ College Station, El Paso , Gadsden, AL, Galveston, Orlando, FL, Plant City (near Tampa) FL, and Temple.
Organizations that have participated include: The Boy Scouts of America Yucca Council, Barber’s Hill High School Texas, Worthington School of Alabama, YWCA of El Paso, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Orlando, The Ronald McDonald House of El Paso, and many other groups.
Help Houston Recover evolves from the feeling of helplessness we all felt after Hurricane Katrina, and responds to the needs of the people in Southeast Texas to quickly recover and get on with their lives after this hurricane season. Hurricane Gustav had barely cleared when Hurricane Ike hit the area with another devastating blow. The hardest thing to do once cleanup has begun, and electricity is turned back on, is to start over.
Help Houston Recover is making donations to the people and groups who need it the most, individuals and associations that assist those individuals in rebuilding their lives. Even though many people have insurance, it might take weeks to get reimbursement checks to buy simple necessities like food & clothing.
What happens to people in the lower economic groups who do NOT have insurance? Often, an automobile and their clothing is what is keeping this group working and functioning and OFF public assistance. Many do not have savings that would cover an event of this type. Help Houston Recoverwill immediately give $500-1,500 towards rent, food & clothing, and transportation to help get people back on their feet, and get them working again.
Help Houston Recover is actively seeking corporate and community sponsors to assist in this effort of recovery, as fast as possible.
Working together, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE in people’s lives!
Help Houston Recover.org has applied for 501 (c) 3 status, and has hired The Foundation Group (100% success rate) to expedite our filing. Typically the IRS can take up to one year to grant this status to a new charity, but we expect this process to only take 2-4 months after completion of all the filing documents by using The Foundation Group.
